We ranked seven SEO content services on one question: what does a small business pay for a working site plus a steady run of articles, with the technical SEO done for it? Each one was scored on five things you can check before paying: a published price, the number of articles that price buys, whether technical SEO is included, whether there's a regular report, and whether a reply time is promised in writing. Every price comes from the provider's own pricing page, read on October 14, 2026. We're on the list and we came out first, so check our numbers as hard as the others.
| Option | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Elmrank | $500 first month, then $300/month | Up to 30 articles a month, technical SEO, site, hosting, domain, monthly report, email replies within 12 hours. No contract |
| 2. Portland Peak SEO | $450/month (Local), $950 (Growth) | 2 to 3 blog posts a month on Local, 3 to 5 on Growth; technical SEO; monthly written report. Month to month, 30 days' notice |
| 3. WriterAccess | $49/month plus about 5¢ a word | Writers on demand; WordPress integration. Managed service from $449/month |
| 4. Verblio | $49.50/month plus 6¢ a word (AI + human), or 16¢ a word human-only | Blog posts on demand. Cancel from the billing page |
| 5. WebFX | $8,600 for two months, then $2,900/month | Technical SEO, 6 content, outreach, UX or CRO assets a quarter, reporting, dedicated marketer. 6-month commitment |
| 6. Digital Elevator | $3,500/month (Foundation) | 2 content pieces and 4 link placements a month, account manager, monthly reporting. 12-month engagement |
| 7. Grow and Convert | $10,000/month base | Interviews, writing, editing, publishing, link building, reporting. No 6 or 12 month contract |
An owner on r/smallbusiness asked for an affordable SEO agency with about $200 a month to spend, and the replies were blunt: "At $200/month you're not going to find a legitimate SEO agency or consultant doing meaningful work." The same reply warns that at that price you'll find "offshore companies running automated tools and sending you reports that look impressive but don't actually move the needle." That warning applies to us as much as anyone: we're cheap, and we use AI. So judge every provider here, us included, by what it puts in writing: the price, what's included, and how you leave.
How we ranked them
The five checks, in detail:
- A published price, with no call needed to see it.
- How many articles a month that price buys.
- Whether technical SEO (speed, indexing, schema, structure) is included.
- Whether there's a regular report.
- Whether a response time is promised in writing.
Here is how each service does on them, from its own pricing page on October 14, 2026:
| Service | Published price | Articles at that price | Technical SEO | Regular report | Reply time in writing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elmrank | Yes | Up to 30 a month | Yes: audit, then ongoing fixes | Monthly | Within 12 hours |
| Portland Peak SEO | Yes | 2 to 3 a month (Local), 3 to 5 (Growth) | Yes: technical fixes, Core Web Vitals | Monthly, written | A first report within 48 hours of its form; none listed after |
| WriterAccess | Yes | Any number, billed per word | Not on the Basic plan | Not listed | Not listed |
| Verblio | Yes | Any number, billed per word | No | Not listed | Not listed |
| WebFX | Yes | 6 content, outreach, UX or CRO assets a quarter | Yes | Monthly traffic and lead reporting | Not listed |
| Digital Elevator | Yes | 2 a month | A technical SEO audit, listed as bi-annual | Monthly | Not listed |
| Grow and Convert | Yes | Not stated as a monthly count | Not listed | Conversion reporting | Not listed |
"Not listed" means we didn't find it on the pricing page we read, not that the service doesn't do it.
We didn't test any of these services, and we didn't rank on writing quality, because we can't measure that fairly from the outside. If quality is your main worry, ask for samples; Verblio, for one, offers them free.
To compare like with like, we also priced 30 articles of about 1,500 words a month wherever the service charges by the word. That's the most our plan includes.
1. Elmrank: the site and the content together for $300
We're the ones writing this, so read it with that in mind and check the numbers.
For $300 a month after a $500 first month, we handle the whole job: an SEO and GEO audit, fixes to speed, indexing, schema and site structure, the site design, hosting and the domain, and up to 30 articles a month that we plan, research, fact-check and publish. You get a monthly report on how the site does in search, and we reply to email within 12 hours. You don't need any technical knowledge. There's no contract, and the code, content and domain stay yours.
AI tools draft our articles; our pipeline fact-checks them and a person approves each one. We're also the newest name on this list, with no client case studies yet; what we can show is Search Console data from three sites we own and run on the same setup, on our use cases page, including two that are down from their peaks.
What the first month gets you, so you can hold it against the others here: an audit of the site in writing, the fixes to speed, indexing, schema and structure made by us, the site designed (or built, if you don't have one), and a content plan that lists the first articles by the searches they answer.
Best for: small businesses that want the site and the content handled, with no technical work on their side.
The catch: no link building, and no calls or account manager. We work by email.
2. Portland Peak SEO: published prices, fewer posts
Portland Peak publishes every price on one page. The $450 Local plan includes 2 to 3 blog posts a month, technical fixes, Core Web Vitals work and a monthly written report, all month to month with 30 days' notice. The $950 Growth plan raises that to 3 to 5 posts. It also offers a free prioritized report within 48 hours of sending its form.
Best for: a local business that wants local search work (Google Business Profile, reviews, citations) more than volume.
The catch: at 2 to 8 posts a month across its tiers, it publishes far fewer articles than 30 a month. Website builds are extra, from $2,200.
3. WriterAccess: cheapest per word, but you manage it
WriterAccess's Basic plan is $49 a month, with content at a flat 5¢ a word. Thirty 1,500-word articles would cost about $2,250 in writing plus the $49. It integrates with WordPress. A managed plan with an account manager, keyword research and publishing starts at $449 a month, with content still priced separately.
Best for: teams with an editor who want a pool of writers.
The catch: on the Basic plan, you brief, review and publish each piece, and the site's technical SEO isn't part of it.
4. Verblio: writers on demand with an AI option
Verblio charges 6¢ a word for content written by humans with its in-house AI tools, plus a $49.50 monthly platform fee, or 16¢ a word for human-only writing with no platform fee. Thirty 1,500-word hybrid posts come to about $2,750 a month with the fee. You can cancel from the billing page, and it offers free sample posts.
Best for: businesses that want to order posts as needed and try samples first.
The catch: it's content only. Topics, publishing and the site are on you.
5. WebFX: a full agency package
WebFX's entry SEO package costs $8,600 for the first two months and $2,900 a month after, with a 6-month commitment. It covers technical SEO, up to 30 optimized pages, 6 content, outreach, UX or CRO assets a quarter, monthly traffic and lead reporting, and a dedicated internet marketer.
Best for: businesses with a sales team that wants lead and call tracking alongside SEO.
The catch: $20,200 for the first six months, and only a few new content pieces a month within that.
6. Digital Elevator: content plus links
Digital Elevator's Foundation tier costs $3,500 a month. It includes 2 SEO content pieces and 4 link placements a month, a technical SEO audit listed as bi-annual, an account manager, monthly strategy calls and monthly reporting. It runs on a 12-month engagement with 30 days' cancellation notice.
Best for: sites that already have content and need links.
The catch: 2 articles a month, and a year-long engagement.
7. Grow and Convert: premium content-led SEO
Grow and Convert's base package is $10,000 a month. Its flat rate includes interviews, keyword research, writing, editing, publishing, link building and reporting on conversions, and it doesn't require a 6 or 12 month contract.
Best for: companies with high-value customers and a budget to match.
The catch: at $10,000 a month, it's out of reach for most small businesses.
Which one should you pick?
If you want the site and the content handled together at the lowest price on this list, and links aren't your bottleneck, we're the fit. That's why we built the plan this way. If you're a local business that mostly needs map-pack work, Portland Peak's $450 plan is a fair buy. If you have an editor and want writers, WriterAccess or Verblio cost less per month and per word than anyone here, and leave the site to you. If links are the gap, Digital Elevator sells them, and if budget isn't a concern, Grow and Convert is the premium end.
