5 WebFX Alternatives for Small Businesses, With Prices

WebFX's entry SEO package costs $20,200 for its first six months. Five alternatives with published prices from $300 a month, and when WebFX is worth it.

A bootstrapped founder asked r/SEO how to avoid overpriced SEO agencies and freelancers, and the thread drew 50 comments. One reply from someone who works with agencies laid out what a small business needs: "A basic audit with target keywords and strategy makes sense for a small business just getting going. Then monthly progress check-ins." That's a useful yardstick for anyone looking at WebFX, one of the few big agencies that publishes its package prices.

Why small businesses look past WebFX

WebFX publishes four tiers. Silver, the entry tier, is $8,600 for the first two months and $2,900 a month after; Diamond is $21,400 and then $9,200 a month. All four carry a 6-month commitment. Silver covers up to 30 optimized pages, "prompt targeting" for 100 prompts, 6 "content, outreach, UX, or CRO assets" a quarter, monthly traffic, goal and cost-per-lead reporting, and a dedicated internet marketer.

Three things on that list push a small business to look elsewhere. The start is expensive: $8,600 before the monthly rate begins. The commitment means $20,200 is spent before you can leave. And the new content is 6 assets a quarter, shared with outreach, UX and CRO work, so a site that mostly lacks pages gets at most two new pieces a month. The r/SEO reply above set a smaller bar: an audit, keywords and strategy, then monthly check-ins. Each alternative below changes one or more of those three things, and gives up something WebFX has.

1. Elmrank: the site and the content for the lowest total

We're the ones writing this, so check the numbers. Against WebFX Silver, the start drops from $8,600 to $500. That first month pays for an audit, the fixes to speed, indexing, schema and structure, the site design and a content plan. After it, $300 a month buys up to 30 articles a month in place of 6 assets a quarter, plus hosting on your domain and a monthly report from your own Search Console. The 6-month commitment goes away: you can cancel any month. Six months cost $2,000.

What you give up is WebFX's lead and call tracking, its dedicated marketer and its outreach work. AI tools draft our articles; our pipeline fact-checks them and a person approves each one. WriterAccess, at number 5, costs less per month, but it sells access to writers with every word billed on top, and nobody touches your site. Among the options here that do the site and the content together, ours is the lowest price.

Pick it if: what you lacked at WebFX was pages, and you want the site handled too.

Skip it if: you need link building, calls with an account manager, or lead tracking. We don't do those.

2. Portland Peak SEO: a small monthly bill, a few posts

Portland Peak's $450 Local plan would cost $2,700 over the six months WebFX locks you into, and it has no lock-in: month to month, 30 days' notice. It includes 2 to 3 blog posts a month, technical fixes and Core Web Vitals work, and a monthly written report. That's roughly WebFX Silver's pace of new content for about a sixth of Silver's $2,900 a month, without the marketer or the lead reporting. Growth, at $950, raises the posts to 3 to 5 for about a third of Silver's monthly price.

Pick it if: you're a local business and want map-pack and review work alongside a few posts.

Skip it if: you want more than a handful of articles a month.

Digital Elevator's Foundation tier is $3,500 a month, $600 more than WebFX Silver, and spells out what you get: 2 content pieces and 4 link placements a month, with an account manager and monthly strategy calls. The catch for anyone leaving WebFX over its commitment is that this one is longer: a 12-month engagement.

Pick it if: you left WebFX wanting a clear count of links each month.

Skip it if: six months felt long. Twelve will feel longer.

4. Grow and Convert: more than WebFX, for a different job

Grow and Convert's base package is $10,000 a month, more than WebFX Diamond's $9,200. It includes interviews, writing, editing, publishing, link building and reporting on conversions, without a 6 or 12 month contract. You'd pay more than at WebFX and get content built from interviews with your own team.

Pick it if: you sell high-value products and want writers who interview your team.

Skip it if: you're leaving WebFX to spend less.

5. WriterAccess: the cheapest bill, and you run everything else

WriterAccess's Basic plan is $49 a month, with content at a flat 5¢ a word, so a 1,500-word article costs about $75 on top. A managed tier with an account manager and publishing starts at $449 a month, content extra. Coming from WebFX, you'd keep the writing and lose everything else: the audit, the technical work, the reporting and the plan become yours.

Pick it if: you have an editor and a working site and only need writing.

Skip it if: you want someone else to handle the site and the plan.

When WebFX is the better choice

Choose WebFX if you have a sales team and want SEO tied to leads and calls through its tracking tools, if you need several specialists working at once, or if your budget runs to the higher tiers and you want one agency to handle SEO, AI prompts and conversion work together. Its prices are public and its packages are spelled out line by line, and that openness is worth something.
