Generative Engine Optimization Cost: 4 Price Lists

Published GEO prices run from $199 to $50,000+ a month. What WebFX, Digital Elevator, First Page Sage and Mainstreethost list, and what you can verify.

On July 23, someone on r/SEO posted "AEO, GEO is bullshit buzzword, intended to trick clients. Change my mind." It drew 80 comments, and the top reply, at 24 points when we read it, didn't try: "It definitely is. But demand and FOMO creates opportunities for agencies." If you run a small business and someone has just quoted you for GEO, that thread won't tell you whether the price is fair. The published price lists below can, along with what you can check before you sign.

What GEO costs, by published price

We used only prices the sellers publish themselves, read on October 14, 2026. Agencies that say "contact us for a quote" aren't in the table.

GEO and AI search prices published by the seller

MainstreethostFrom $199, $299, $399 or $999 a monthFour tiers, from Essentials to Custom, each with a one-line tagline. No deliverables are listed per tierPrices are for annual billing

First Page Sage (its tiers for the market)$2,000 to $3,000, $4,000 to $7,000 or $8,000 to $12,000 a monthTier 1 buys placements on ranking sites. Tier 3 adds 3 to 5 list articles a month, review work and PRMonthly

Two of these rows aren't one company's price. WebFX and First Page Sage publish ranges they say they've seen across the market, and First Page Sage adds that its tiers "reflect pricing we've seen among the small number of companies formally offering GEO services today." Digital Elevator also sells off-site mention programs from $3,495 a month across 90 days, and its ongoing Managed AEO/SEO starts at $3,500 a month on a 12-month engagement.

Why the spread is so wide

The prices cover different jobs under one name. First Page Sage describes GEO services as "a combination of SEO, PR, and reputation management," and its higher tiers add list articles, review work and PR on top of Tier 1, which it describes as "Purchases low-cost placements on ranking websites." Digital Elevator weights its program "across off-site signal building and on-site extractability according to where the gap actually sits."

At the cheap end, less is written down. Mainstreethost's tiers are the lowest published GEO prices we found, and its pricing section gives each tier a one-line tagline and a price. Before paying $199 to $999 a month on an annual bill, ask for the deliverables in writing.

A second reply in the same thread, at 8 points, explains where the demand comes from: "Most of what is being sold as 'GEO' is bullshit. But it is being sold to try to fill the gap in organic traffic and conversions that a lot of businesses have been experiencing over the last 12 months." That's one practitioner's view, and it doesn't make every GEO program useless. It does mean a quote should say what it will change and how you'll see it.

What you can verify, and what you can't

WhatCan you check it?Where

Clicks from Google's AI featuresOnly inside total clicksSearch Console Performance report, "Web" search type
Visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, GeminiYes, when the browser passes the referrerReferrals in your analytics
Mentions in AI answers that nobody clicksNo report from the AI companies that we know ofTracking tools ($50 to $1,000+ a month, per WebFX) sample prompts

Google's help page for the new report says "As of August 31, 2026, we've rolled out these insights to all websites worldwide." Clicks are a different story: Google's AI features guide says these sites "are included in the overall search traffic in Search Console," reported "within the 'Web' search type," so you can't split them out.

For ChatGPT, OpenAI's crawler page says "Sites that are opted out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers." That one is free to check: open your robots.txt and see whether OAI-SearchBot is blocked.

The last row is the hardest to prove. Digital Elevator is candid about it on its own page: AI platforms "answer the same prompt differently across users." Asked whether it guarantees a brand will appear in AI answers, it says "No, and we recommend skepticism toward anyone who does." The same page says "AI visibility has no Search Console." That's still true for ChatGPT and Perplexity. For Google's AI features, Search Console has had a report since August 31.

Our AI search plan, and what $300 covers

Our plan doesn't split SEO and GEO: one price covers both, because for Google's AI features they're the same work (our SEO vs GEO post quotes Google on this). The first month is $500 for an SEO and GEO audit and the fixes: speed, indexing, schema that matches the page, and a robots.txt that lets the OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity crawlers in unless you want them out. Each month after is $300 for up to 30 articles written to answer questions directly, ongoing technical fixes, hosting and the domain.

The monthly report puts your Search Console clicks and impressions next to AI Overviews impressions and AI referral visits, where they can be counted. Replies come within 12 hours, and there's no minimum term.

Some things aren't in it. The plan doesn't include link building, paid placements or PR, which is most of what First Page Sage's higher tiers add. If your gap is that other sites never mention you, we're the wrong buy for that part. We don't promise citations in AI answers, and our terms say so.

We also haven't published AI numbers for the three sites we run, because we don't have enough data yet to show them honestly. When we do, they'll go on the AI search optimization page, next to what we track today.

Questions

How much does generative engine optimization cost per month?

Published prices we found on October 14, 2026 start at $199 a month (Mainstreethost GEO Essentials, billed annually). First Page Sage's tiers run $2,000 to $12,000 a month, and WebFX's guide puts agency GEO at $1,500 to $50,000+ a month, with $1,500 to $5,000 for a small business. Our plan, which covers SEO and GEO together, is $500 for the first month and $300 a month after.

Can anyone guarantee that ChatGPT will cite my business?

No. Digital Elevator, which sells AI visibility programs, answers that question on its own page with: "No, and we recommend skepticism toward anyone who does." We don't promise AI citations either; our terms say so.
